The personal ad that applies to many of us: ISO sleep

When my daughter-in-law describes how the baby sleeps, I realize that sleeping like a baby is not a good thing. Sleep deprivation is a form of torture. Are we setting ourselves up for daytime misery by denying our need for sleep? Mothers with young children can’t help that the children wake up during the night and need attention. How many of us cause our own sleep issues?

Lack of or poor sleep can have profound health consequences, such as leading to chronic illnesses like heart disease and diabetes. Drowsiness slows reaction time and can be as harmful as drinking alcohol. It’s one reason that pilots have mandatory crew rest. Lack of sleep may delay reaction time in high stakes situations.
