Making a New Year Vision Board

My visionary friend always gathered her groups of friends at the New Year to help us concentrate on visualizing goals for the upcoming year and remain focused on living an intentional life.

Here it is, the end of another year, and my friend Joan is only with us in spirit. But I can still feel her presence. Daily I stumble over reminders of her exemplary way of life and hints she left to help me stay on my true path. A few days ago I uncovered a vision board she’d made, and each image or phrase emitted a message which resonated with my quest for a more authentic self. Thanks Joan!

I always tried to set goals for myself – whether at the beginning of a new year or at the beginning of a season. I remember some of my teenagers’ eye rolls when I sat down with them at the beginning of each summer vacation and tried to establish what they wanted to gain out of their new found free time. I am humbled to see that they each still keep a journal and live purposeful lives full of service to others.

But while I love a good arts and crafts project, especially if it involves scissors and paste, (just ask my grandchildren), I usually confined my goals to a list. Most years I tried to figure out how I could work harder, accomplish more, and sleep less. This year, I am cutting myself some slack. Since my main goal now is to be fit enough to ‘go the distance’, I need to sleep more, stay in shape and in general, give myself more space and time.

To that end, I’m gathering magazines and spending an hour pasting together a vision of what I hope to gain in 2025.

Who is with me?
